HILLCREST

MARCH MEETING

A DAY RIDING THE RAILS AND OPERATING THE TRAIN AT HILLCREST CHRISTMAS TREE FARM NEAR REEDLEY

We spent the day riding the rails at Hillcrest. We arrived early enough to see the engine fired up and waited while a good head of steam was built up. Took two hours during which the hot coffee and donuts really fit the bill.

While the steam was building, our host KELL SCHMIDT explained the operation of a steam locomotive to prepare us for a test run. Many of us got to play engineer for a day and take the controls. This apprentice engineer came to the conclusion that flying an airplane is EASIER!
